When we’re in the middle of our temptation, the idea of victory can feel like something that is just out of our reach. The desire that we have can feel so all-consuming that the idea of fighting against it, of someone overcoming it, is beyond what anyone can do. And in a way, it’s a little true. Everyone on earth has been tempted by something at some point, and we all have fallen to it a time or two. No one is perfect. No one has made the right choice one hundred percent of the time. Well…almost no one. As believers, we know that Jesus Christ came to earth as both God and man. And Jesus was tempted Himself, in fact, He was tempted by the very devil himself. And yet Christ was able to overcome. And He gave us the blueprint for how we can overcome as well.
When Christ was tempted, He fought back with the very word of God. He held on to scriptures that were true instead of listening to the lies being thrown at Him. We can do the very same. Think about the Scriptures we have gone over this week, or even the Scriptures here in your devotions. Choose one or two that you have found most helpful, and commit to spending time each day this week to memorize these Scriptures.

About this Plan

We all have to deal with temptation at some point in our lives. Why does it have a hold on us and what can we do to break it? We’ll read what God says about temptation to see that while we each have temptations of our own, we never have to go through the struggles alone. Even when we’re faced with tempting thoughts, there is always a way through.
