Ask the children to shout out “I am” statements surrounding the Christmas story. For example, “I am the one who told the shepherds about Christ’s birth.” The rest of the family can guess who the child is pretending to be.
We can describe ourselves in many ways: “I am a daughter”; “I am a son”; “I am a student.” Jesus described himself as “I am,” too, but He didn’t always add a title afterward. Through this statement, He was describing himself as God. Jesus has always been God and a part of His work in the world. He needs no explanation or title. He simply is and therefore can say, “I am.”
