Are you good?
Back in 2013, Oprah gave a commencement speech at Harvard where she revealed a question that she had been asked by President Bush, President Obama, national heroes, local housewives, and countless others in her epic career of interviews. Once the camera was off and the interview over, almost everyone would ask Oprah, “Was that okay?” Even Beyoncé asked it after confidently blasting her latest hit to adoring fans! Because deep down, no matter how good you are and how much good you do, you want to know if you are good enough.
That’s true with God too. You can try so hard to be a good person, but you’ll still wonder, “Am I good enough? We good, God?” Or maybe you know you’ve messed up a million times and assume you know the depressing answer to that very question. “We’re not good, are we, God?”
But listen to the lyrics of a classic Christmas carol—“Hark! the herald angels sing/‘Glory to the newborn King/peace on earth, and mercy mild/God and sinners reconciled!’” Reconciled. That’s a fancy way of saying that God is saying to you, “We’re okay! We’re good!” Jesus came with mercy and a message of peace so that God and you could be good.
The whole world is aching to be enough. Through faith in Jesus, you are enough for God. You’re good! “The Lord make his face shine on you . . . and give you peace” (Numbers 6:25,26).

About this Plan

Christmas music often offers us much more than nostalgia and fuzzy feelings. In its lyrics we find a God so good that he came down from glory, took on human flesh, and lived as Immanuel—God with us.
