DAY 9 OF 14

When you hear the word "peace," what comes to mind? A good night's sleep. Not worrying or being anxious. People not fighting with one another. Sitting on the beach, watching the waves roll in. When we think of peace, we think of the absence of conflict. Feeling calm. A deep breath. Unfortunately, in our world, moments of peace feel scarce.

After the crucifixion of Jesus, the disciples were scared. What would the people that hated Jesus do to them, they worried. They locked themselves in, afraid of what was to come and what life would be like without Jesus.

But then, like light pouring in the window as the sun rises, Jesus broke into their darkness. The risen Jesus physically showed up where they were hidden, and the first thing he said was, "Peace be with you."

The last thing these disciples expected to feel was peace, but it was the first thing Jesus wanted them to know was available to them. Now, their circumstances hadn't changed. People still hated them and their future on earth was unknown, but their eternity was secured in the hands of the resurrected, living, and breathing Savior.

Peace that Jesus offers doesn't depend on people getting along or things working in our favor. The peace Jesus brings is how we face our troubles. It's confidence and steady footing in an ever-changing world. No matter the fight ahead, this peace allows us to rest knowing God is with us and for us.
