Do you see Jesus?

In the first episode of The Chosen, Jesus doesn’t appear right away. His presence is quiet, almost hidden. That mirrors how it was in the beginning of his ministry – many didn’t recognize who he was. The story builds around people searching – people waiting for light to break into their darkness.

Then, at just the right moment, Jesus appears. He sees Mary and sets her free. That moment captures something at the heart of the gospel: Jesus sees those others overlook. This episode begs the question: Do you think Jesus sees you, too?

Luke 19 tells a similar story. Zacchaeus, a man known for cheating others, wants to see Jesus. He climbs a tree hoping to catch a glimpse over the crowd. Jesus looks up and calls his name: "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today."

Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, but Jesus was already looking for him.

The people grumble when they see where Jesus chooses to go. Why share a meal with someone like that? But Jesus gives a wonderful answer: "I have come to save what was lost."

That’s the pattern we see again and again. Jesus meets people where they are, not where others think they should be. He steps into their story with compassion and authority, restoring what was broken.

Every heart that longs to see Jesus can be sure of this: He already sees first.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for seeing me even before I look for you. Help me to recognize your presence, to welcome you in, and to see others through your eyes. Amen.
