Repeatedly throughout history, God would use opposing forces to “discipline” Israel for their idolatry, but it was never permanent. Here we have yet another time that Israel has put themselves in trouble with God, and now, they have cried out for a deliverer. I would not look down on them too much, because if we are honest with ourselves, we have done the same on several occasions. We put ourselves in situations that we shouldn’t be in, and then we call on God to get us out. It is one of the flaws of man. Fortunately, we serve a God who is merciful and He gives second and third chances.
