Got Change?

DAY 17 OF 40

WHO’S THE BOSS? How would you answer the question, "Why do you work?" Some possible answers may be, "I work because I need the money!", "I work to provide for my family", "I'm working to pay off a debt", "I'm working because I don't have anything else to do!" For a Christian, work is not just done for personal fulfillment, or to raise the ranks, or even to fulfill a dream pursuing something you are passionate about. If we are in jobs that we don't quite enjoy, we as believers need to realize that work is much more than just a job that we take up to pay the bills. God created us to do good works (Eph2:10). And Paul says to the Colossians, we must work as unto the Lord, not for earthly masters. If you don't do what you love, you must learn to love what you do. The way to do that is simple: Work as if you are working for the Lord. Daniel was taken as a slave to Babylon - not a great position to be in! But his heart was so committed to the Lord that whatever work he did, from being a slave to being the top administrator in the land of Babylon, he did it as unto the Lord. God blessed the work of his hands and caused him to increase in favor and influence. Our reward is from the Lord, for whatever we do, we do it to serve Jesus Christ. We need to be convinced that our promotion comes from God and not from any man. Our security must be in the Lord and not in the decisions of our boss or the organization. We need to work as unto the Lord even when things don't well, with gratitude, with excellence, with integrity, without grumbling or doubting the sovereignty of God. Sometimes it feels like you are in the pit. Sometimes in the prison. Sometimes in the palace. Wherever you are, the Lord will always be with you as you continue to work for him and serve him wholeheartedly. The world serves mammon but we have chosen to serve God and work as unto Him. He will provide for us and add to us all things needed for life. The CHALLENGE to Change: Ask God to help change your attitude toward work and to help you see it as something you are doing for Him, no matter how menial the task is. Refuse to grumble and murmur about your work or your boss. Receive His grace.
