A Letter to Teens

DAY 5 OF 7

The One Thing

But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42)

Being a youth is a time filled with many challenges and opportunities for growth. It's a time when we start to become more independent and learn how to deal with problems on our own. Our parents won’t always be there to step in and help us, so we must learn to become responsible adults.

But it's not just about facing challenges alone. It's also about learning to rely on God and seek His presence. As the Bible says, "He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze" (Psalm 18:34).

We can see this example in the story of Martha and Mary. While Martha was busy preparing food for Jesus, Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to Him. When Martha became frustrated and angry, Jesus reminded her that only one thing was important - being in His presence.

In our own lives, we can become distracted by many things - exams, relationships, family problems, and more. Once we are distracted and pulled by many things in our minds, the anxiety grows and suppresses our minds. But God reminds us that only one thing is truly important - seeking His presence and enjoying peace and joy with Him.

Just like Mary, we, too, can sit at Jesus’ feet instead of worrying about too many things. We can take the time to be in His presence, seek Him in all we do, and never miss an opportunity to hear His voice. So, let's choose the “one thing” and sit quietly at the feet of the Lord Jesus.
