What does it mean to persevere? For some of us, the term immediately makes us think of an athlete who refuses to quit, even when their body is failing or the odds are stacked against them. Others see an author who spent years writing a book that was finally published. Maybe you think of a person going through struggles who continues to show up every single day and fight the battle. In any situation that comes to mind, we know that to persevere means to never give up. To keep going even when there seems to be no hope. The idea of perseverance can sometimes feel like it’s only applied to these mythic stories—to tales of over-the-top villains or overwhelming odds. But in reality, we all persevere every single day. We all have odds stacked against us (though some may be more than most). Every day we’re called to make the right choice and to be the best influence we can be, no matter what’s stacked against us. And we all do this to reach the same goal: an eternal life spent with our Creator. That is certainly worth persevering for!

Spend some time in the Word today, and choose a verse that you feel would be encouraging to you during difficult times. Write the verse down somewhere you will see it every day, either on a card by your bed or taped to your desk at work. Use the verse as a reminder that God is there to help you persevere no matter what.
