Have you ever heard the quote, “Give the gift of going second”? While there isn’t one person that it’s attributed to, it’s become a rather popular saying. When we step up to be an example, we give someone else the gift of being able to follow our lead. We give them the chance to go second and walk in our footsteps. For someone who has never volunteered at your church, seeing you as an example could inspire them to step up and help out wherever they can. Or maybe you decided to go cheer on a student from your youth group in the play that they’re in at school, which then inspired more adults at church to find ways to do something similar. When we choose to step up and go first, we can inspire others to see new possibilities. And when we lead with our light shining for the Lord, others will see and follow in our footsteps.
