2 Corinthians

DAY 71 OF 91

To begin this passage, Paul talks about how he has a “godly jealously” for the people in Corinth. We know that envy is not a fruit of the spirit, so how can Paul make this claim? He compares his feelings to that of God in Exodus 20:5, “I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God.” God’s jealousy is love in action. He refuses to share the human heart with any rival, not because He is selfish and wants us all for Himself, but because He knows that upon that loyalty to Him depends our very moral life… God is not jealous of us: He is jealous for us.” (Redpath in Law and Liberty) This jealousy is one that desires above all for us to know God himself and to walk with him. We know that Jesus came so that we may have life abundantly (John 10:10.) So for God to be jealous for us means that it is also for our own good.

How does knowing that God is jealous for our hearts, souls, and attention shift our mindset for today?

About this Plan

2 Corinthians

We are going through the book of 2 Corinthians together! We will be reading one chapter every week as we usually do, but this time we have also included devotions and other passages to read on certain days. We hope you will follow along with us as we deep dive into Paul's second letter to the church in Corinth and seek to see what we can learn from it today as we seek to follow Jesus together.
