Jealousy Attracts Evil Jealousy and envy are two of the most common human responses. You don’t just see them among adults, but also among children. Yet somehow, when we find ourselves becoming jealous or envious, we often don’t deal with it with the same fervor that we would deal with the thoughts of murder, revenge or adultery. I have been guilty of harboring jealous thoughts myself. It happens every time I see someone else get promoted, get a better break, a better salary or a breakthrough before I do. All in all, these feelings crop up when I see someone else do better in life than me. On careful meditation of this verse, you realize that the apostle Paul is saying that if jealously and envy go unnoticed and unchecked in your life, then they basically end up serving as huge neon signs for the demonic (every evil thing) to come and have a party with us. For instance, doesn’t a rotting piece of food automatically attract ugly flies and insects of all kinds? So also, jealousy and envy cause our hearts to rot and the stench of that attitude attracts disorder and evil into our lives. The story of King Saul and his envy towards David, gives us deep insight of how jealousy and envy, if not dealt with severely, can cause the downfall of even an anointed man of God and cause him not to finish well. Jealousy and envy are actually characteristics of the devil himself and they give rise to coveting. Lucifer was guilty of this very thing that caused him to be expelled from the heavens. So the next time you feel jealous or envious, don’t rationalize or justify it. Just cut it off from your life. Prayer Father God, help me to deal with jealous thoughts severely, so that I can truly celebrate the success of others with purity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
