Doing Right vs. Doing Evil in the Eyes of the LordSample

Before beginning today's reading, take some time to refresh your memory on where we are in the story of the kings by watching the video above.
This week we begin 2 Kings. In the story of the Kings of Israel and Judah, part 2 begins with a significant succession...not of a king, but of a prophet! This week we will read of Elijah's miraculous journey to his home in heaven on chariots of fire! Before Elijah's journey home, he passes on the mantle to his young prophet, padawan Elisha! In the midst of all the kings who "did evil in the eyes of the Lord," you will hear the gentle whispers of God's gracious presence and faithful love to His people. As we read these ancient stories of the Kings of God's people, we must not forget, that we believe this is God's Word for us today. Let'd not just go through the motions and miss the living Word God has for us! Before we begin, let's take a moment, to quiet our hearts, and ask the Lord to speak to us as we pray...
Today’s prayer of illumination: Calm me now, O Lord, into a quietness that heals and listens. Help me be still. Open my wounded heart to the balm of Your Word. Speak to me in clear tones so that I might feel my spirit leap for joy and skip with hope as Your resurrection witness. Amen.

About this Plan

A 6 week reading plan through the books 1st and 2nd Kings. The theme for this plan is: "Doing Right vs. Doing Evil (in the eyes of the Lord)". We will explore the lives of prophets, kings and queens and how they led God's people in the eyes of the Lord. Some choose "evil" and others "to do what's right". How are you living in the eyes of the Lord?
