There is a song in all of us pointing to heaven

We were writing with some friends when one of them began to tell a story about the first time he heard the lyrics to the classic worship song “I Love You Lord”. It was a Wednesday night youth service and the whole room let loose in the chorus. “It was like I had known the song my whole life long,” he explained to us “the chorus was so simple to sing...so recognizable. I couldn’t help but sing along.” Later that night, he was thrilled to share with his mom the experience he had with this song. “Oh Ethan,” she said back to him. “You feel like you know that song because it's the song I sang to you as a child every night as you laid to rest.” Ethan finished that story to a room full of wet eyes. We started to write a song based on the idea of a song laced through the tapestry of our hearts. There is a song in heaven that all of us recognize without even knowing it.

The book of Romans teaches that the word of God is written on the hearts of all people. Furthermore, the book of Genesis tells us that all people are created in the image of God. This means that deep down below the surface of our consciousness are the fingerprints of God. The lyrics of the holy scriptures are playing like background music deep in our souls. Even when we don’t yet confess Jesus as Lord, his signature is in our soul. This is what it means to be made in God’s image. That we bear the resemblance of his character without even knowing it! It’s like an old song coming back to mind. It’s been there our whole lives, it’s been there the whole time. And even if we forget exactly how the words go we can always join in the anthem of heaven - singing “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord almighty, the whole earth is filled with his glory.”
