Moses: The Lessons I Can LearnSample

Moses: The Lessons I Can Learn

DAY 7 OF 7

Don't stop singing!

I love it when my dad sings at the top of his lungs in worship! His enthusiasm shows me his response to God and his thankful heart for everything God has done for him. I love this so much because it's a beautiful expression of how much my dad loves Him!

We read in the Bible that David was a great musician…but Moses? Yes, that bearded Moses we see in pictures holding a staff, his arms raised, while the sea parts in front of him. He wrote songs?! Yes! Now whether or not he had a good singing voice, I don't know—but that doesn't matter! Moses' heart, like my father's, was full of gratitude for what God had done for him and the people of Israel. Did you catch that? Rather than just dwelling on what he hoped God would do in the future, Moses was THANKFUL, both for the past and the present!

Even before David wrote, "Sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory." (Psalm 98:1, NKJV), Moses had written this song:

"'I will sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously!...

The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation;

He is my God, and I will praise Him…

Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power…

Sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously!'"

(Excerpts from Exodus 15:1-21, NKJV)

Did you notice that? Both David and Moses praise God for the miracles they've experienced!

May I tell you something else? They sang in worship before the next calamity in their lives came along. Yes, following their praise, challenges still kept coming their way. However, choosing to be thankful for the victories helped these men of God to overcome!

Oftentimes, as we prepare to go into battle, what we may underestimate is the power of thankfulness. Our "thank you" today prepares us for the battle tomorrow. Let's praise God on the mountains of our lives, in the valleys, and on the plains between them!

I'd like to encourage you to use this moment now to thank God for what He has done for you yesterday and today. I know you'll see for yourself the strength that choosing thankfulness will give you for tomorrow! :-)

You are a miracle!
