Through the Bible: Philippians

DAY 2 OF 4

Working Out Our Salvation With Fear

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:12-13, (ESV)

When we receive Christ and repent of our sins, we are saved. However, this is not something we earn; it’s by God’s grace. Once we are saved, we should let go our old nature and sinful past. The new life that Christ plants in us should result in a new way of living. However, we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling, as we know our old nature will always be at war with us.

Salvation does not consist of works, but it must be worked out, in the sense of obeying Christ and living out His truth in our daily lives. However, we should not worry about it, as we have help. Our Almighty God, through the Holy Spirit, is working in us, guiding us to live a life that pleases Him. He helps us discern what is good. But more importantly, we have to put this into action. We should help spread the Good News to more pre-believers so that they may be saved.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your grace and mercy, for the forgiveness of our sinful past. We know You are living in us. May we work out our salvation with fear and trembling by obeying You. Help us to be the living testimony for You and spread the Good News to more pre-believers. We pray all these in Your mighty name, Amen!
