Esther, Born for Such a Time as This

DAY 18 OF 28

Brrrr. Jumping off the highest diving board—so scary...and cold! With your wet, bare feet you climb the slippery iron steps; you hold on tight to both railings. The wind blows the last drops of water off your body and you shiver. Slowly you walk along the roughened surface of the board to the end.

You don’t have the courage, but you just want to be brave. You have to. There’s no way back. Behind you, there’s a line of waiting people shooting impatient looks at you...

Queen Esther also had to "climb stairs" to go to the king; but no one did so without being asked, not even the queen. We read in the Bible: “All the king’s officials and even the people in the provinces know that anyone who appears before the king in his inner court without being invited is doomed to die unless the king holds out his gold scepter.” (Esther 4:11, NIV) Everyone knew the consequences! Esther knew she could be put to death, and yet…three days later, Esther put on her royal robes and went to the king.

Sometimes we know what we have to do, but we keep imagining everything that could go wrong. We know that we have to extend forgiveness. We know that we don’t have to be worried. We know it, our heart knows it.

Today, I dare you to jump off the high diving board. Jumping requires you to let go of the familiar. Jumping causes movement in the water. There are two things you know for sure, once you directly confront your fears:
1. You will go under!
2. You will come up for air!

Esther dared to take the jump: “When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold scepter that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter.

Then the king asked, 'What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you.'” (Esther 5:2-3, NIV)

Be bold enough to live with God. He extends His golden scepter to you and asks you: “What can I do for You?” Today, tell Him what you need. Take the leap!
