In the story we will look at today Jesus is in Gentile territory for the first and only time in Luke’s Gospel, and it is really obvious by the telling of a herd of pigs(which Jewish people did not eat or raise).
So here is Jesus and his disciples ready to take the good news of the Kingdom of God to the outsiders, and Jesus is immediately greeted by a man who was the outcast of the outsiders! Naked, living in the tombs, and demon-possessed!
In this man, Jesus encounters the least of the least, the last of the last.
This is the perfect opportunity for Jesus to show just how far his power and grace reaches. All the way to the Gentile tombs. And that is where you and I were. Thank God for the power and grace of Jesus to search for us, find us, and restore us! - Brian Mott
