DAY 38 OF 42

An address in heaven

These words of Jesus in today's scriptures really only make sense when we understand them in the "wedding language" of the time.

After the great betrothal ceremony, the groom left his bride and went back home. In his father's house, he now had to prepare a wedding room or apartment. Sometimes this was a room or even a whole addition to the father's house. This was where the wedding would later be celebrated and the marriage consummated. The young married couple would then live there together. In addition, it was also necessary to prepare the entire wedding celebration (which often lasted several days). Whether the groom had thought of everything, and everything was really ready for the wedding, this was decided entirely by the father. For the bride, this meant a waiting period separated from her groom, which could last up to 12 months. But no matter how long it took, the groom would eventually bring his bride home to him.

You actually have an address in heaven. This is not about how you will live in eternity. Or that Jesus is busy building and furnishing your home. Rather, the statement is that one day you will be very close to God. That is your destiny. Forever in the Father's house! Now we just have to wait a little longer. What a party it will be when the time finally comes!

Even though this idea and the descriptions of eternity are beyond our understanding, God does not leave us in the dark about what it will be like. Negatives, sickness, sorrow, suffering, and even death will no longer exist with the Father.

ACTION STEP

What are you suffering from the most at the moment? Write it down in keywords: your illnesses, your hardships, sadness, struggles, doubts etc.

Then cross out each of these keywords with a bold pen. In doing so, thank Jesus for each and every point that is over for you in His new world. Thank Him that He accompanies you today in all your struggles and gives you strength. Also, ask Him to show you what He still has in store for you until He comes again.
