Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample

Make Things Right
We all sin. We all make very real choices, think thoughts, and commit actions that go against God's commandments. We lie. Yes, even small lies so we don't hurt someone's feelings or so we don't get in trouble are sins. We cheat. We're talking peaking at your friend's UNO cards all the way to figuring out how to get the answers to that really hard test. We disobey our parents, and the list goes on and on and on. Sometimes our sins seem small, and all we need to do is apologise to the person we hurt and to the Father. But sometimes our sins seem harder to get over. Like David, we feel a heavy burden and feel agitated in our hearts. Psalm 38 gives us a pretty descriptive picture of how David feels after he has sinned.
What do we do when we feel the heavy burden of the sin and pain we have caused others? The first thing we do is found in verse 18: "I confess my iniquity. I am sorry for my sin." We tell God what we did, and we ask for forgiveness. The next thing we can do is found in verse 22: "Make haste to help me, O Lord of my salvation." We ask for God's help. There is no formula for how long it will take or how soon we will feel right with God, but it is up to us to take the first steps to making things right.
GO DEEP: Do you need to to confess something to God? Do you need to ask His help to make your situation better? Do it right now!
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
