Love God Greatly - the Importance of Prayer: Approaching the Throne of GraceSample

Commit to Be Satisfied in God
Read: Psalm 63
SOAP: Psalm 63:5–6
As with choice meat you satisfy my soul.
My mouth joyfully praises you,
whenever I remember you on my bed,
and think about you during the nighttime hours.
Into the text
King David penned Psalm 63 when he was in the Desert of Judah. David had great physical need to walk through a barren wilderness with no water source. But David’s desire was not for food or water. Instead, his desire was for the Lord.
David had experienced God’s goodness as well as the riches of a kingdom. David knew God’s presence was better than the most satisfying foods, for God alone satisfies. As he wandered in the desert, God was David’s provision for all his needs. He turned to God for help and was confident God would help him at any time.
By spending time remembering God’s goodness to him, David experienced peace in a difficult circumstance. David hid in the desert from his enemies, hunted by those who wanted to end his life. But still, David spent time reflecting on what God had done for him, and he spent time and effort praising God. Even in his darkest hour, David was fully satisfied in God.
Whether our days are spent running from enemies, working at a job, taking care of children, or studying in school, we are fully satisfied only in God. Today, may we commit to praise Him and find our satisfaction in Him only, no matter our circumstances.
Prayer
Father God, I thank You for carrying my burdens throughout the day. I thank You for helping me reflect Your love and Your light on all those I encounter. I thank You for the challenges and trials I experience throughout the day because they help me seek and depend on You. Protect me and my loved ones as we sleep. In Jesus’ name, amen.
