Love God Greatly - the Importance of Prayer: Approaching the Throne of GraceSample

Commit to Let Him Wash You of Your Sin
Read: Psalm 51
SOAP: Psalm 51:10
Create for me a pure heart, O God.
Renew a resolute spirit within me.
Into the text
Psalm 51 was written after David committed adultery and murder. It is a prayer of repentance to the Lord. In it, David recognized God’s mercy, his sin, and God’s ability to restore. David lamented over his sin after recognizing the true depravity of his heart. He understood his great offense was against God and that God alone could offer forgiveness and restoration.
David desired a clean heart. He asked God to renew his spirit and align his heart to God once more. His desire to be restored to God after his sin shows his true understanding of the weight of sin and the holiness of God as well as knowing that God’s mercy was the only thing that could save him.
While David had to go through the process of making sacrifices to cleanse himself from sin, his sacrifices did not bring forgiveness. Forgiveness comes from God alone. Today, when we sin, we do not turn to religious rituals but to Jesus Christ. He is our substitute, sacrificing Himself so we would no longer have to pay the penalty for our sin. He took the wrath of God upon Himself, allowing us to be counted as righteous when we place our faith in Him.
We are saved by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. By God’s grace, He sent Jesus to sacrifice and pay for our sins. Through nothing but faith in Him, no actions, prayers, or sacrifice of our own, are we saved. Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation, and He offers forgiveness to us when we place our lives in His hands. We were once enemies of God, but we are washed clean from sin by His grace. We can model David’s prayer as we repent of sin, knowing we are fully forgiven and made new in Christ.
Have you surrendered your life to the Lord? Who do you know that needs to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ? Will you share that Good News today?
Prayer
Father God, I thank You Lord for loving me even when I was your enemy. I thank You for sacrificing Your Son for me. Lord, help me to totally rely on You, trust You completely, and surrender all of my problems and my pain to You. Create for me a pure heart and renew a resolute spirit within me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
