Red Letter Challenge Kids: The 11-Day Discipleship Experience for Kids

DAY 11 OF 11

Day 11: Challenged to Go like Jesus

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. John 15:16

The game “Red Light Green Light” is a group game where one person who is “IT” stands away from the group, and then the rest of the group competes to see who can get to the “IT” person first. The person in charge turns their back on the group, and everyone races to get across and tag them. Whenever “IT” turns around, everyone else must freeze in place. If you get caught moving, you have to go back to the starting line.

Did you know Red Light Green Light is played all over the world? In the UK, it is called Statues, Fairy Footsteps, or Peep Behind the Curtain. No matter where you live, you can understand following a leader.

Understanding what and why Jesus said what He did helps us know how to follow Him.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last— John 15:16a.

Being a disciple of Jesus is the greatest opportunity we will ever have in this world. And the amazing thing: Jesus chose you. You didn’t choose Him. When He came to Earth, He came to love you, save you, and appoint you. The Bible says that He made you in order to create fruit that will last.

This doesn’t mean grapes, apples, or strawberries, but the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. John 15:16b

Jesus says that when we understand who we are (He chose us), and when we know our purpose, we have one last promise from Jesus. What we ask for will be given to us. This isn’t a trick. It is a blessing from God. It means that the more we understand the heart of God, the more we will know what to ask. We will be in a partnership with Him as we go into the world and share the gifts and good news of Jesus.

There’s a green light in your future, are you ready to GO!!?!

Scripture: Acts 1:8, Luke 9:60b, Mark 16:15

Challenge

Tell someone about Jesus today. One way to do that is to draw a picture of Jesus and put it where your mailman or delivery man can see it. Or talk to a friend and invite them to church with you.
