Day 5: I Am the Messiah

Ever since I was a little boy, I have always looked forward to the coming of the Messiah. Yes, I remember dreaming of the day when the Messiah would be king over Israel and how He would free us from the oppression of Rome.

When John the Baptist began his ministry, I became one of his disciples, and I followed him for several years. We went through all kinds of hardships, but in my heart I rejoiced greatly, knowing that each day, I was getting closer to finally seeing the Messiah come.

My brother Simon was also waiting for the manifestation of the Messiah, but as he himself has already told you, his faith gradually grew cold. I, too, was in a lot of trouble. In fact, I was also in considerable debt, as the fishing had not been going too well lately, but I held fast to my faith.

I remember that morning when I saw Jesus. I was with John the Baptist, and he pointed to Jesus and said, "'Behold the Lamb of God'" (John 1:35-42, NKJV). I couldn't resist: I had to follow Him. My heart was pounding because deep within me, I was sure: Jesus was the Messiah!

I ran to Simon to tell him, but his reaction was not exactly what I'd expected. His faith was at an all-time low, and his problems were keeping him from thinking clearly. That same night we went out fishing, and in the morning when we met Jesus on the shore, it was such a surprise to see Him on the beach! I knew something was going to happen, and I kept telling Simon that He was the Messiah and convincing my brother to follow all of Jesus' instructions.

It was such an incredible experience to see that miraculous catch! My heart was overflowing with joy at the thought that I had just witnessed an awesome miracle and that my debts had also just been paid off. But what impressed me most was seeing my brother on his knees, faith renewed and ready to follow Jesus.

I was not mistaken: Jesus is the Messiah. I am now a disciple of the One who takes away the sin of the world.

Or maybe your faith has grown colder, and you have doubts deep within your heart. Either way, I want to pray for you that God will work a miracle in your life today and that He will quicken and renew your faith even more during this season of Christmas: "Father, I pray for my dear friend, that his/her faith will be revived today like never before. I ask that You would work miracles in his/her life and family for the glory of Your holy Name. Amen!"
