Ekklesia

DAY 2 OF 7

Yesterday we talked about the word Ekklesia and how it translates into a “gathering or assembly,” the word we use for church. The church is a gathering or assembly. There’s something important we need to notice about that- Jesus didn’t use the word for synagogue or building. He didn’t describe the structure of a church or say that it needs to have a specific amount of rooms or services on the weekend. The church isn’t a building. The church is a gathering of people. So often we get caught up in thinking that the church is only the building we go to, not the people inside the building that are gathering to worship together. So, what does this mean for each of us? It means that we are a part of the church if we trust Jesus. We don’t have to go to a specific building to be part of the church. This matters because we belong to something so much larger than just the building we go to on the weekend. We are part of a body of believers across the world, united as the church to worship and serve God together. There are members of the church who you may never even meet on earth- but they are still part of the same Ekklesia.

Challenge: Take some time today to pray for the members of the church that you don’t even know. There are people who are part of the church in other countries and continents who need prayer! Take time right now to pray for spiritual growth for the church locally and globally.
