What does it mean to “walk in a manner worthy”?
As a pastor, my deep desire is for the people in my charge to be cared for, loved, and built up in the Lord. My desire for them is that they will “walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory” 2v12
So what can we learn from Paul as a disciple for others?
First, we do as Paul did in vs 10. Paul demonstrated that he and his team were devout, God-fearing, pious, and worshipful. He also walked uprightly or justly and acted fairly. Furthermore, they acted blamelessly so no one could bring a charge against them. Paul demonstrated what it is to lead by example.
Secondly, Paul and his team exhorted, encouraged, and implored the Thessalonian congregation like a father would his own children.
Exhorted - strongly encouraged a response from them
Encouraged - Some versions say comforted - putting courage into them
Implored - Insisted and bore witness
The language used here is quite strong and when I read it, it appears as though Paul was in a battle. They had to keep reminding and insisting and encouraging and building. It is a picture of being consistent.
If we are to walk in a manner worthy, we need to live upright and blamelessly but also take others on the journey with us through fighting for them.
