Bible Explorer for the Young (John)

DAY 1 OF 14

A Life Lesson from Nathanael

Do for others what you would want them to do for you. This is the meaning of the Law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets. Matthew 7:12

Nathanael was one of Jesus’ disciples. Before he met with Jesus, he only heard about Jesus from others. When he heard Jesus, about whom Moses and the prophets had written, was from Nazareth, his first reaction was: “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” It sounds like he was looking down on Nazareth because Nazareth was just a small town. What a prejudice!

A prejudice means an opinion that is formed without knowing or considering all the facts. Fortunately, Nathanael’s prejudice didn’t stay too long.

When he met Jesus face to face, he personally experienced that Jesus was indeed the Son of God. He believed Jesus was the King of Israel. He erased the prejudice from his mind.

There are times when we have our own prejudice about someone or something. Let's respect and treat everyone we meet as a person who is loved by God.

Prayer

Dear God, always remind me that everyone deserves to be respected and valued as a child of God. Amen.
