Walking With Jesus

DAY 1 OF 4

THE COMMITMENT TO BE FAITHFUL

Matthew 25:14-29

"His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ (Matthew 25:21)

According to the Indonesian dictionary, "faithful" means obedience, regardless of how difficult a task is. Faithful also means persistence and steadfastness (in friendship), and to hold fast (in someone's stance and promise). Lord Jesus sets an example for us by not just making a promise but giving concrete proof of His faithfulness when He was crucified for us.

One of the most loyal animals is the dog. Dogs have a good sense of sight, hearing, and smell. It is possible to train a dog to a higher standard of intelligence. In the Western world, we can train dogs as sniffer dogs to catch terrorists and drug dealers. There are disaster dogs specially trained to search for people buried in landslides or natural earthquakes. Other people train dogs as guide dogs, especially for those with hearing or vision disabilities, so that they can go to crowded places, such as shops or banks. The dogs are very loyal. They wait and watch over their master. They are even ready to help when their master is in trouble. Dogs are known for their loyalty and courage to face even the most daunting risk.

Matthew chapter 25 tells about a parable of talents. This parable tells us about the faithfulness of the servants to their master. There was a servant who received five talents and two talents. Both of them showed their loyalty to their master by earning twice what was given to them. However, the servant who received one talent did not show his loyalty to his master. Because of this, we can read in verse 30 that this servant was thrown into the darkest darkness. Let us remain faithful even though we may face crushing burdens and obstacles before us.

Reflection:

1. How about your Christian life? Are you still faithful to Jesus, the Lord of lords?

2. Have you given your best to Him?

Application:

Make the right choices every time and every day to remain faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ!
