A Little God Time for GirlsSample

Feelings
Angry. Frustrated. Sad. Confused. Disappointed. Inferior. These are all feelings that can bubble up inside us and threaten to spill over. We want to act on how we feel. Angry? It’s tempting to slam a door or yell or pout. Sad? It’s tempting to hole up in a room with music cranked up loud or call a friend and talk over how miserable we feel.
The problem is, feelings are undependable and unreliable. They’re like the wind. They change, they shift, they come, and they go. Trying to live your life on feelings is like trying to walk on a floor that moves.
If you belong to Jesus, you can live by what you know, not by how you feel. When you’re feeling disappointed, frustrated, sad, or angry, plop down on your bed and pull out the Bible. God’s Word is steady, true, and always reliable, unlike your feelings. Read what God says about your situation and act on that. Live by what you know to be true, what you believe in the Bible to be true, not by the circumstances you see.
Dear God, sometimes feelings overwhelm me. I feel so mixed up that I don’t know what to do. Show me how to live by your Word that never changes instead of by my feelings. Amen.
