I Can't Do Everything, but I Can Do Everything

DAY 4 OF 4

I can do all will be your declaration


What the word tells us in Philippians 4:10-13 is really challenging. These are Paul's words about what he has lived through and his attitude towards life: “... I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength".


We must see the words "I can do all this through him who gives me strength" in the correct context, or we could read it as an inspirational phrase and take it as a license to achieve anything we want.


I imagine Paul, writing these words from prison, having lived a life with ups and downs like the ones he describes in this passage. This statement is a statement of contentment in the middle of any situation.


Paul faced different seasons throughout his life. He was hungry, but he also had a full stomach. In the middle of all the difficulties  he faced, he was able to declare: "I can do all this through him who gives me strength".


So what does it mean?


It means that you are going to get out of this current difficulty, that you will get up once again. That the church will continue stronger than ever, despite any circumstances, and that your best days are on the other side of what you are going through. You can bear temporary limitations because you can do everything in Christ who strengthens you.


Make the right decisions. Decide to rejoice, decide to be grateful in the middle of any challenge. Decide to focus on what Jesus has already done for you.


Paul is the greatest example of this. His words encourage us to think correctly in the middle of challenges.


You may not have a job today, or you may be worried about the economy. Illness may knock on your door or your marriage may be in crisis. Regardless of the situation you feel that limits you, you can declare: "I can do everything in Christ who strengthens me."


Don't be discouraged!


We can make that powerful statement because our joy is based on his grace. Our God is faithful and will never abandon us. He shed his blood, defeated death, forgave our sins, and made a way for us to move forward, hand in hand with him.


Prayer: Father, I ask You to strengthen my faith and lift my gaze. Revive a firm faith in me. Today I decide to live in the joy that comes from You despite the circumstances. Thank You, because in Christ, I can do everything. Amen.
