SWHW Bible Reading Plan: June 2021

DAY 7 OF 22

Top Takeaway from Caroline Foster:

God told Jeremiah to buy a field outside of Jerusalem. The city was under siege and Jeremiah bought the land that the soldiers occupied; probably not a smart investment. In addition, Jeremiah was a prisoner in the palace. But Jeremiah was demonstrating FAITH in God’s promises to bring His people back and rebuild Jerusalem.

Once he made the investment, Jeremiah started to doubt and overthink his decision. Anyone else ever been guilty of that? But instead of letting his mind win the war, he went to God. He prayed through his doubts and affirmed who he knew God was. He affirmed Him as Creator (32:19) and Redeemer (32:21).

Our thoughts are powerful. I love how Craig Groeschel puts it: "Our lives are always moving in the direction of our strongest thoughts. What we think shapes who we are."

If we want to overcome doubts, lies, and insecurities that come from the enemy, we must fight with prayer and the truth of God’s Word, just like Jeremiah did here. He knew he had done what God had called him to, and he trusted God, but that didn’t mean that doubt didn’t creep in.

As soon as Jeremiah prayed out loud, what happened? God showed up and affirmed him. Once Jeremiah quieted the lies by leaning into the Lord, the Lord showed up. God’s plan was to restore Jerusalem, and He was going to prove His faithfulness. Not because they cried out a lot, but because it was a part of His plan!

God assured Jeremiah again in Chapter 33 verses 2-3. He reminded him that all he needed to do was cry out to God and He would answer. Sister- God is ready to answer your prayers! He hears you and cares about the details. BUT He also wants you to surrender. He wants you to walk in obedience and acknowledge that He alone is God.

We must ask, lay aside our pride, and humbly walk in obedience.

Thank You, Lord, for Your Word that is our life map. Thank You for faithful heroes of the Bible who show us what faithful dependence on You looks like. People who spoke the truth and were a vessel for You. I pray over the women reading this devotional today. I have no idea what they are walking through, but You do. I pray that You would give them wisdom and conviction where necessary. Make us more like You today, Jesus. Bind them up with Your love and keep them, Lord. We love You.  Amen.
