SWHW Bible Reading Plan: June 2021

DAY 20 OF 22

Top Takeaway from Somer Phoebus:

How beautifully weird this book of the Bible is. If you are a lover of poetry, I'm sure you're happy here. If you are a lover of outlined do's and don'ts, you're probably ready to move on. No matter what, remember this is a SONG.

This means Song of Solomon needs to be read as just that, one continuous song.

And in this song, the writer conveys through the lyrics a full picture, from start to finish, of the special kind of love we see between a man and his wife.

Initial physical attraction

Initial emotional attraction

The dating

The marriage

The honeymoon

The certain conflict and arguing

The maturing of love

The legacy of love

Chapters 5 - 8 pick up at the conflict and take us through a beautiful reconciliation in the garden which then leads us into seeing the maturing of this relationship.

My takeaway today was the reminder that in order to grow deeper in relationships, there will almost always be conflict. As believers, we can't fear conflict, but we must be ready for it. And "ready for it" is the opposite of ready to fight.

To be ready for conflict means we are ready to love. Even more. Even greater. Even when it's hard. Even when it's undeserving.

Believers should be the best at relationships because believers have the best example in Jesus.

Father, thank You for Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for Your forgiveness and for the love You pour out on us. Help us to love those You've put in our lives with a love like the love between You and Your Son. When conflict comes, focus our eyes on You, our hearts on what You want, and give us a deep desire to fight for unity. We love You, God. Amen.
