SWHW Bible Reading Plan: June 2021

DAY 19 OF 22

Top Takeaway from Sarah Martin:

There are seriously smart scholars who interpret the beautifully crafted words of Song of Solomon differently. Some look at it as a love story intricately woven to display the beauty of the pursuit of man and woman in a love/marriage relationship. Others interpret this book as an illustration of the pursuit of the Bridegroom and the Bride of Christ: God pursuing those He made in His image and the pursuit of a pure Church after her Savior, Jesus.

There are very clear, absolute Truths in the Bible. There are also areas where interpretations can be both/and, not just either/or. I think this is the case for Songs. I encourage you to grab different commentaries and read several points of view on this book. There are great, edifying arguments on either side of the coin.

For today, let’s hone in on Songs 2:8-17 and simply look through the lens of interpretation of the Bridegroom (Christ) and His beautiful, pure Bride (the Church as a whole and believers individually).

Are you as captivated by this intimate exchange of words as I am? This call to come away, draw near, lean in, listen close, intimate whispers of devotion, swirl emotions in me as I read. You, too? If not, go ahead and read again. Take a deep breath. Find a quiet space in your house. Set aside any affections for anything else and let the Lord love you with these words:

“My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away, for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” Songs 2:10-12

This Scripture reminds me of Colossians 3:3-4 where the Lord promises that we are hidden with Christ. Will you note that today?

“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:3-4

As those who surrender our lives to Jesus as Savior and Lord, we are hidden with Him; we are never hidden from Him.

Yes, our sin separates. Be quick to repent and draw near again.

Yes, our fear and doubt cause chasms. Be willing to loosen the grip, and with open hands, worship and adore the One who calls you Beloved.

Yes, it is hard to imagine that level of devotion and affection illustrated here. But, will you let your mind run wild with Scripture in hand and a prayerful heart?

You are hidden with Christ. Called to draw near. You are never hidden from Him.

Be blessed with that Truth today.

Lord, show me the depths of Your love. Give me a heart for You alone. Amen.
