Uncuffed: Bulletproofing the Police Marriage

DAY 5 OF 40

Jealousy is Good

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Deuteronomy 4:24

Are you willing to fight for your marriage? I mean really fight to win no matter what it takes to rescue it, maintain it or increase the level of intimacy to new heights. Being jealous of your 2:24 Unit is a good thing.

When the Bible talks about God being jealous, it’s not what we associate with bad breakups. Righteous jealousy is protecting what’s yours. And to be very clear, you each belong to the other, and deserve to be fought over; not fought against.

Once your marriage turns into a bulletproof 2:24 Unit, you do not belong to your friends, or squad, or that old flame back in high school. You are 2 people who choose to become 1 person.

We love this scripture (Deuteronomy 4:24) because it’s an active, passionate consuming fire. Isn’t that the way you both began the relationship? Nothing and no one stood in your way of getting to know each other. Fighting back-to-back against any foe. Focusing on your spouse ensures that the flames of marriage continue to burn.

But, righteous jealousy can easily turn ugly if secrets and suspicion are allowed into your marriage. Remaining close and transparent is the best way to avoid suspicions and grow as an invincible 2:24 Unit.

CALL TO ACTION:

Are there things, people, secreted confessions that cause unhealthy jealousy? It won’t just go away. You both have to make an effort to share with each other what it is that causes disruption in your relationship.

Designate a time to talk about anything you feel that creates suspicion, jealousy, or hurt. Agree beforehand that this is an information-sharing-and-gathering time. No judgments, critical comments, or conflict will occur. Just laying it out there for thought and consideration.
