Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of Christ

DAY 1 OF 8

Welcome to the Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of Christ Bible Plan. If you recently made the decision to BECOME a fully devoted follower of Christ, I want to congratulate you. Heaven is full of joy because you gave your life to Jesus. (Luke 15:7)

Others of you may have been following Jesus for a while and you are interested in growing your faith. This plan is specifically designed to help you develop spiritual habits to become more like Christ.

So where do we start? Becoming like Christ is a process and doesn’t just happen automatically.

In Jesus’ day, followers of Christ were called disciples. In the Bible, we read about 12 men who took Jesus and their relationship with God very seriously.

So what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? A disciple of Jesus is someone who organizes their life around three basic goals:

     1. Be with Jesus

    2. Become like Jesus

    3. Do what He would do if He were you

Read that again.

1 John 2:6 says, “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” So that’s exactly what we want to help you do over the course of this plan. We want to help you learn how to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus would do.

Here’s an important scripture for you to believe, memorize, and truly internalize. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

You are a NEW CREATION. You have a new identity. The moment you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal. The promised Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:13) What does that mean? This seal isn’t a “what”, but a “who.” God’s own Spirit comes to take up residence in you! He gives you His power to live this life like Jesus.

Why is this important? You see, when you know WHO you are and WHOSE you are, you’ll know WHAT to do.

Identity is so important because an unhealthy identity creates unwise habits. And unwise habits reinforce an unhealthy identity. So what we want to do is help you develop some healthy spiritual habits to reinforce your new identity in Christ.

Here are the spiritual habits we are going to help you develop. We’ll use an acronym for the word HABITS

     1. Having a dedicated time with God

    2. Attending Church

    3. Being Generous

    4. Investing in Healthy Relationships

    5. Telling Your Story

    6. Serving Others

Most people create DO goals. We are going to focus on WHO goals. Remember, when you know WHO you are, you’ll know WHAT to do.

Who do we want to become? We want to become fully devoted followers of Christ. So we will focus on spiritual habits that will help us be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what He would do.

How to use this plan:

    1. I highly recommend for you to find someone who can walk with you through this plan. Maybe you can ask the person who invited you to church, a mentor, or a friend who is a strong believer. You may even want to ask your Pastor at your church to connect you with someone. I’m sure they would love to help you find someone.

    2. Feel free to adjust this plan to what works best for you and the person you are doing it with. You could think of each day like a week and stretch it out longer, or maybe you want to go through it quicker. Do whatever works best for you and the person you are meeting with.

There are short videos that go with each habit.

Bible Plan Overview:

    1. Day 1/Week 1: Identity: Understanding who you are in Christ.
