Devotions From John's Gospel

DAY 8 OF 17

Jesus is troubled in spirit on account of the impending Judas’ betrayal (13:21) and Peter’s denial (13:38). But brushing aside His personal distress, Jesus offers comfort to His disciples. He demands a twofold belief when their hearts are troubled: “believe in God; believe also in me”. Jesus invites the disciples to share his faith and join him to believe in God. In addition, He presents himself as a tangible and intimate person to hold on to and says “believe also in me”.   He offers the disciples hope for something to look forward to.  What matters most is the promise that Jesus will come for us and we will be with Jesus wherever that is.

Dear sister, brother!  How do you see Jesus in these three verses?  (He is trustworthy, goes to prepare and returns to receive us)

Do you have fears? Then Jesus knows about it already. He comforts you when you are confused or afraid

Prayer:

Jesus, my comforter, You forget yourself caring for me.  You love me selflessly, thank you.

Wipe away my fears and doubts so that I can hold on to the hope of eternal fellowship with you.

Jesus might say…..

My child, you are my precious lamb. I delight in your wellbeing even at the cost of my life. Be comforted in the safety of my fold.
