The Journey to the Cross in ASL

DAY 10 OF 10

The Tomb

I love how Scripture shows us a plethora of fascinating people throughout the Bible.

One man named Joseph is mentioned in all four Gospels. Not Joseph the Ruler or Joseph the Dad, but Joseph of Arimathea. Who was this Joseph? From what we can see throughout the Scriptures, he was a very rich man and a member of the Sanhedrin, which was basically an elite group of religious leaders of that time. But most of all, he was a disciple of Jesus. But, a disciple in secret.

There comes a moment in our lives where each one of us must make a decision to keep hiding our faith or publicly declaring it. That was a sounding moment for Joseph. I can only imagine his thought process. I imagine him thinking, “should I or should I not?” Maybe for Joseph, seeing Jesus up on the cross convicted him.

Our story of the cross continues as Joseph does something courageous and brave. He does something that made what was secret to him, a public declaration of faith to all.  He went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. By doing that, he risked everything. He could have lost his influence, reputation, wealth, family, and even his life. Joseph was not only a believer of Jesus, but a follower. With his decision to show all that he was indeed a follower, all would know.

This was Joseph’s moment. A moment that God made. He became a key part of the greatest story in history. Joseph faced his fear and obeyed the call of God.

As we conclude our ten-day Journey to the Cross, there’s no better time to pray and ask God how we fit into His master plan. How can we be obedient to what He has in store for us, our future, and our journey to always remember the cross!
