Longing to BelongSample

Longing to Belong

DAY 9 OF 10

David’s request in Psalm 139:23–24 is short but deep. And dangerous. Asking God to bring on trials that reveal hidden anxieties takes guts. Asking him to stir up your conscience to expose offenses takes humility. Asking him to direct your path takes a willingness to surrender.

By God’s grace, you can be courageous, humble, and yielded to the will of God.

I don’t know where the path of life has taken you, but I do know you’ve never traveled it alone. God has been present with you every step of the way. Regardless of how you feel or act on any given day, you can walk in victory every single day. God has given you all power and authority to live as an overcomer. Will you? That’s up to you. Simply because you can walk in victory doesn’t mean you will. You have the freedom to decide whether to walk in victory or retreat in defeat. Nothing and no one can keep a child of God from victorious living. Not your friends and family. Not your circumstances. Not your past.

To wholeheartedly believe and speak of your ability and will to walk in victory, you must have a clear picture of what victory looks like. Living victoriously doesn’t mean you never face defeat. Those who walk in victory don’t trip and fall over setbacks. They don’t identify as victims or even as survivors. They identify as overcomers and more than conquerors. Rather than allowing momentary battles to ransack their hopes for the future, those who walk in victory maintain an eternal perspective.

Your tongue has the power of life and death. So tell yourself that you can walk in victory, and repeat that life-affirming declaration with every defeat. Remember… your tongue has power. Use it for good.

Declare this truth:

I can walk in victory!

Pray this aloud:

Dear God, help me to remember that no amount of willpower or positive thinking can help me step out of the rejection mindset to walk in complete victory. I achieve victory through my faith in Jesus. He overcame the world, and because I believe he is the Son of God, I can be an overcomer too. I choose to believe in you and accept what you think of me. Help me align my thoughts with your Word of truth. Guide me along the path of everlasting life to certain victory. Amen.
