Longing to BelongSample

My pastor drew a vivid word picture that convicted me. He stood on the platform, arms folded, head cocked to one side, and said, “I can walk into a room and say, ‘Here I am.’” He flung his arms open wide and struck a ta-dah pose. After pausing for effect, he took a step forward and extended his arms toward us in a warm, welcoming gesture. Then said, “Or I can walk in saying, ‘There you are.’” 

Rejection says, “Here I am,” too. But rather than declaring it with a prideful “ta-dah,” rejection whispers its longing to be seen. Acceptance satisfies that longing. Knowing we belong makes us less susceptible to the sting of rejection. Knowing we belong frees us to say, “There you are.” Satan knows this and doesn’t want us to know that we belong. He uses rejection to make us sit down and shut up. 

But remember, you have life-giving power in your tiny tongue. With the power and authority that’s yours in Jesus Christ, you can tell Satan to sit down and shut up. Hallelujah!

Never surrender ground through wrong thinking and wrong standing. You have been adopted into the family of God and are a co-heir with Christ. The Spirit you received when you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior does not make you a slave. The Spirit makes you royalty, with all the wealth, prominence, power, and authority given to an heir of the King. Adoption into God’s family gives you access to God’s resources and elevates you to royal status. As a child of God, you are set to inherit everything that is his. 

Now that you’ve discovered the joy of acceptance, nothing can keep you from walking in victory. You hold the keys, my friend. Continue believing and speaking the truth found in Scripture. Your tongue has power. Use it for good.

Declare this truth: 

I will receive an inheritance from the Lord.

Pray this aloud:

Dear God, thank you for giving me the keys to the kingdom. Thank you that I have everything I need to unlock the shackles of past rejections and swing open the doors to victorious living. You satisfy my desires and bless me with the assurance of unconditional love and acceptance. Help me to guard the truth I hold. Amen.
