New to Faith

DAY 22 OF 28

Hide and seek

Have you ever lost your keys? It is one of the worst feelings in the world when you have somewhere to go! Most people don't expect to lose their keys and so they don't leave additional time to find them! This makes it all the more stressful as they always tend to be the last thing we pick up before leaving. The reality is, keys are often only found when we look for them. Very rarely, do keys make themselves known to us! Just like we have to seek out our keys to find them, Jesus also calls us to seek out people who are lost and far from him. Too often, many Christians wait for non-believers to find them, to ask them about God or initiate a conversation about faith, but the Bible would say it’s our responsibility to take the first step in finding lost people. [Matt 28:18-20].

There’s a story in Luke, where Jesus not only talks about but displays this message [Luke 19:5]. Jesus doesn’t wait for this individual to speak to Him, but takes the first step and engages in a conversation. Jesus later in this story explains why He came to earth, Jesus came to Seek and Save the Lost. [Luke 19:10].

  • Jesus firstly says ‘to seek’. Meaning, He is not waiting for others to come to Him. But instead, He'll seek people out and create an opportunity for them to come to Him.

  • Then Secondly, Jesus says ‘to save’. Meaning, Jesus desires to see people saved from the consequence of sin in their life.

Now as followers of Jesus, we are called to do the same. We are called to seek the lost and point them towards Jesus who is the only one that can save. So who's a person in your life that would benefit from the love that you’ve experienced in Christ? Who are you seeking out to point to Jesus for salvation?

PRAYER

Jesus, thank You that You didn’t wait for me to find You, but that You sought me out and brought me to salvation. Jesus, I pray today that You would grow my heart for the lost, for the hurting and anyone far from You and give me the confidence to seek them out and point them to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
