A new study has suggested that most people have 6,200 thoughts per day. You are awake almost 57000 seconds in a day. That means that you have a new thought every 8 seconds. How easy is it to keep yourself busy with scary thoughts – what if…? How easy is it to keep you busy with bad thoughts – ugly things about people? How easy is it to keep yourself busy with nasty thoughts? 

Paul probably had hours and hours of thinking time that he had to spend in jail. He was stuck in the same place with the same nasty surroundings for days and years on end. How did he keep on following Jesus and keep on encouraging others to follow Jesus? He did what he said in this verse… Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking…” What exactly does that mean? Fill your thoughts with Jesus. How do you do that? Think of what Jesus did… think about stories of how He treated people; think about how kind He was. If you don’t know your Bible that well yet or don’t know that much about the character of Jesus to be able to fill your thoughts, sing a favorite worship song in your mind. 

Paul knew that if he focused his thoughts on the peace Jesus gives, he would be reminded of Jesus and that He is in control in every situation. And that brings peace

Today is ThinkDay.  You are going to do something first. Search for a song about the character of Jesus. Lie on your back and listen to the song with your eyes closed. Try to keep your thoughts from wandering off. Listen to the words. Fill your thoughts with who Jesus is.
