How to Make the Most of Your Devotional TimeSample

How to Make the Most of Your Devotional Time

DAY 3 OF 4

Daily Devotionals and Worship

We live in an amazing time when the Word of God is available to us at our fingertips. We are also blessed with an immediate access to various devotional tools and materials. For example, we can listen to Scripture on our way to work. We can listen to Christian sermons during break time. We should take advantage of these opportunities to engage with God’s Word.

At the same time, we should not live under guilt when it comes to our daily devotional life. We do not need to feel like a failure if we do not spend every free moment of our day overtly doing something devotional in nature, such as listening to the Bible or praying. The Scripture tells us that everything created was made by God. As a result, all of creation worships Him. The Psalms beautifully describe this manifestation. The Scripture says that the heavens declare God’s glory. The skies proclaim his amazing work. The seas and the dry land belong to Him. Everything in creation glorifies our majestic God.

This means that the whole world is a believer’s sanctuary. When we understand this truth, we realize that all of our life is worship. Worship is acknowledging the worth of God. This means that we can worship the Lord in enjoyment and pleasure, as long as we are aware of His generous mighty hand giving us all things.

God made the world beautiful and diverse. Sometimes, we take God’s multi-colored creation and we try to make it monochrome. We turn worship into a single expression of singing three songs on Sunday morning. In reality, it is a multifaceted celebration of the goodness and glory of God manifested in creation and in our everyday life. God created variety in worship. When we think about heaven, we realize that it is full of diversity because our God is. Everything the Lord created is multidimensional. It is God’s very nature to explode His creation with His beauties.

In the same way, variety should be part of our devotional life. Some days, we can get away in nature and worship God there. Other days, we can worship Him in the privacy of our room or our so called “prayer closet.” Some days, we can sing songs; other days, we can pray more. God looks at our hearts and gives us freedom in how we express ourselves in our devotional lives. He makes everything we do to honor Him beautiful.
