 Week One - Day Seven - God gives me light

Welcome to our Time to Shine devotional!  As we journey together through this devotional, we pray it will help our kids to understand that God is light.  He has given us His spirit to help us navigate through the darkness, just like a lighthouse helps ships to navigate dangerous waters, God’s light helps us to navigate this life.  We find His light in His word, in His people and in His presence.  Through well known Bible Stories we want our kids to know that the darkness cannot overpower God’s light!

The second thing that Peter said we need to do to follow Jesus, is to be baptised. 

Baptism is when you want to show the whole world that you love God, so you go under the water for a second and come back out again. It shows that all of your sins have been ‘washed’ away and you’re ready to start living for Jesus. 

That day, 3000 people were baptised! 

ASK:

If you’ve been baptised, what did it feel like? 

If you haven’t, maybe ask your big person or someone you know who has been baptised, and ask them what it was like.  

REMEMBER:

The Light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overpowered the Light. (John 1:5)

SAY:

I can shine your light in the darkness,

With your love and kindness.

We don't ever need to fear,

Because you are always near.

Your light is forever,

Overpowered by darkness?  Never!

We can trust in your light,

Shining so bright.

Leading us through even the darkest days, 

In your love and hope we will always stay.

In Jesus name, Amen.
