Project Purpose: Find Your Why to Find Your Way

DAY 5 OF 8

Create Your Vision Board

A vision board is a visualization tool which refers to a board of any sort used to build a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams. They can be made with cork or poster boards or digitally created just like how I (Boris) placed as my screen saver. By placing visual representations of your goals into one space, you can easily visualize them frequently. Remembering to look at them daily and imagine them as if they have already come true is one of the best ways to proactively work toward your purposes and goals.

In the Bible, God gave Habakkuk a vision, then instructed him to record it so that it will not be forgotten.

“And the Lord answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.’” Habakkuk 2:2 ESV

This verse shows us that there is a lot of value in having a visual aid to capture and contain your vision in a concrete way. What I think is really beautiful in this definition of “record” is that it covers any method of learning style or preference in how one communicates or takes notes. This can take any form: doodles, art journaling, or simply writing it out, fiber art, clay work, glass work, music, poetry, or anything else. The idea, the words, the images need to be recorded so that you can see it and be reminded of it as time goes on.

How to create a vision board: What do you need?

Pictures that represent your dream, goal, vision, you can use any image: old magazines, photos, or even your own artistic rendering.

You can include words, phrases, fabric scraps, map scraps, etc. These are objects that hold representative meaning for your dream, goal, vision.

A piece of poster board, cardboard, or even wood on which to mount your work. Most people use an old wooden clipboard, stacking all the items mentioned.

Also, you would need glue, tape, clips, and/or staples to stick the images and objects onto the board.

Gather your images and objects (if any) and arrange them as you please on your board. Don’t stick anything until you are ready. You can be as simple or elaborate in your design as you wish! You are basically building a collage. Display your completed project in a spot in your home or office where you will see it every day.

You may also journal in words what this vision board means and any new insights that have come to you as you created it. Keep your journaling in an accessible place and add to it as fresh revelations come.

The best way to achieve your goals is to keep them top of mind so that you’re always looking for ways to move toward them, and for this, a vision board is the perfect tool. This will prompt you on a daily basis to visualize your ideal life and remind you to keep in step with your goals, especially as these relate to your life purpose.
