GO2020 | ENGAGE: June Week 3 - ABIDE

DAY 3 OF 7

June 16—God’s Promises in Battle

Read

1 Peter 5:6-11

Reflect

Satan prowls about like a roaring lion. In nature, a lion does not roar continuously. A lion prowls, seeks prey, crouches, and then roars, paralyzing the victim with fear in order to get the upper hand and take down the prey. That is why Peter tells God’s people to be alert. It is important to prepare new believers for this real-world warfare. Satan is not an imaginary foe. He seeks to devour all who follow Christ. With awareness of Satan’s modus operandi, and trust in God “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37 ESV).

Engage

Reread the Scripture passage. You’ve now read it two days in a row. Does anything stand out to you differently than it did yesterday? Consider the ENGAGE questions again. Don’t be afraid of the repetition. We learn more about God each time we read and reread his Word.

· What does it say about God?

· What does it say about us?

· Is there a promise to trust?

· Is there a command to obey?

· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?

· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?

Memorize

Now read this week’s memory verse, 1 Peter 5:8. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.
