Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 30 OF 63

A Cry For Help

This psalm is written by David as he cries out to God in the midst of distress and angst. It is important to note that David first declares the greatness of his God before he moves into his own plea for help. This is because David knows that the difficulty of his situation does not change the reality of who God is. In acknowledging how great God is, David reminds himself that his God is in control and is just as good as He has always been. Once he fully acknowledges that God is loving and faithful to his people, he asks to see this love and faithfulness in his life.

Coming to God with your struggles is actually a sign of your faith in Him because you are declaring that He is the one who can do something about it. Sometimes it can be easy to forget God’s consistent character when we journey through life. As challenges arise, it can be easy to wonder if God is the same as He was in the good times. This psalm teaches us that we can freely come to God and that we can rely on God's goodness and faithfulness. David's example encourages us to remind ourselves who God is and cry out to Him for help.
