"God loves you … still"
Some people have had the idea that the God of the Old Testament is somehow less loving or different from the God depicted in the New Testament. It may be surprising for them to hear Jonah’s description in his response to God. “I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.” (Jonah 4:2) Righteous and pure? Definitely. All knowing and all powerful? Of course. But even more than that, the defining, overriding characteristic of God is love.
Dear Lord, I’m impressed today with the fact that love defines who you are. I know that the closer I get to you, the more effectively I can share and ‘be’ the loving person you want me to be. Draw me closer to you, Lord. I want to be a reflexion of your great love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
