Trusting God in Times of CrisisSample

Trusting God in Times of Crisis

DAY 2 OF 7

Where can I look to?

When we’re in danger or we see only problems surrounding us, it is easy to become overwhelmed. Fear can rob us of the ability to see God’s hand at work in a situation.

From an Africa Study Bible application note:

Some Christians in Africa fear that evil spirits, witches, or their ancestors may harm them. Elisha’s servant was greatly afraid when he saw the army with the horses and chariots of the Arameans surrounding Elisha and himself at Dothan. But Elisha told him. “Don’t be afraid! For there are more on our side than on theirs!” (2 Kings 6:16). Physically, this was not true, but Elisha could see into the spiritual world and see God’s armies sent to protect them.

If God is for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31)? What can harm us if God is protecting us? Why should we fear anyone who plots against us? God is sovereign over all forces of evil, because “the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world” (1 John 4:4). Nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38-39). Let’s trust that the Lord to fight our battles just as he did Elisha’s.

Today:

What is your greatest fear today? Consider avoiding looking at or talking about things that increase your fear. Instead, look out for signs of God’s presence at work in your situation. Pray in faith, “Open my eyes, Lord, and let me see your victory.”
