The Whole Story: A Life in God's Kingdom, Part Four

DAY 4 OF 30

Family Devotional:

Today we begin the next large section of the book of Leviticus. In the chapters that follow, God outlines essential mandates of the sacrificial and offering system that continue to have practical applications in the modern world. We will start again by engaging with the Torah Portions for a more in-depth look into the next significant section of Leviticus. It reads as follows:

“The twenty-fifth reading from the Torah and second reading from the book of Leviticus is called Tzav (צו), which means ‘Command.’ The name comes from the first word of Leviticus 6:9, where the LORD says to Moses, ‘Command Aaron and his sons ...’ Tzav reiterates the five types of sacrifices introduced in the previous portion but this time discusses the priestly regulations pertaining to them. The last chapter of the reading describes the seven-day ordination of Aaron and his sons as they prepared to enter the holy priesthood.”

Daily Demonstration:

Today, consider what it means to obey a “command.” Think about times in your life when you were given a command. Additionally, think about the times you gave a command. What was the expectation? The heart behind the command? Think about God’s commandments. What do you think God expects? What is the heart behind his commands? Consider engaging in conversation with a loved one or friend to dig deeper into these questions.
