GO2020 | ENGAGE: March Week 2 — CARESample

March 9—We See the Pain
Read
Matthew 9:35-38
Reflect
Jesus’s heart was stirred with compassion when he saw the crowds. Our hearts will not be moved to compassion until we put ourselves in position to witness the needs of others. It is in this way that we open ourselves to both the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbors. Even then, we will have to ask the Lord for his heart so that we can feel the pain as Jesus did. Our hearts will not feel what our eyes have not seen. With intention we must enter into the lives of others.
Engage
Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:
· What does it say about God?
· What does it say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, Romans 12:15. Spend a few minutes beginning to memorize it.

About this Plan

As Christians we are called to enter into the lives of others—to be with them in their triumphs and trials. This is not a call to fake it, acting like we care when we don’t, but rather to possess an authentic delight or a genuine empathy, whatever the situation calls for.
